WAN-IFRA is inviting applications from Women In News forWAN-IFRA Women In News Social Impact Reporting Initiative 2021/2022.

WAN-IFRA Women In News Social Impact Reporting Initiative 2021/2022

About the Award:

 Firstly, the initiative was launched in 2020 to facilitate social impact reporting

secondly, to bring the stories of marginalized and vulnerable communities to the mainstream,

Lastly, to help bring mainstream media to these underserved audiences.

Furthermore, in its second year running, the initiative provides small cash activities-based grants.

In addition, it aslo give sponsorship for reporting assignments that focus on social impact.

Eligible COUNTRIES

However, At this time only applications from Sub-Saharan Africa countries in which WIN is active will be considered including

•  Botswana,
• Kenya, Malawi,
• Rwanda, Somalia,
• Tanzania,
• Uganda,
• Zambia,
• Zimbabwe

INDIVIDUAL GRANTS

Firstly, individuals who are currently enrolled in, or are alumni of, any Women in News programme dating back to 2010.

While we will assess each application individually on its merits, you may apply as an ‘individual’ if any of the below conditions apply:

– Should not currently receiving a salary from a media organisation
– have been made to take unpaid leave for an extended period
– You have been made to take a salary cut of 50% or more for an extended period
– a correspondent who has seen a work contract cancelled or reduced due to COVID-19

In addition, You may not apply if you are currently employed on a full-time basis, or have a full-time reporting contract in place.

The amount to applied for.

Possibly, Journalists may apply for grants for assignments up to EUR2,000.

However, the amount requested by an individual should reflect the scope and length of the proposed assignment.

The type of assignment to propose as the reporting assignment

However, journalist can propose any type of story, or series of stories, reports, or features, in any format: (e.g. print, podcast, video etc.).

– Gender equality & Gender Specific
– Poverty & Social Welfare
– Public Interest & Investigative
– Health & Safety

However, Assignments should reflect social, economic, political or health-related issues through a gendered-lens.

ORGANISATIONS

Firstly, Media outlets in print, digital or radio may apply for short-term grants to support their efforts to bring timely and accurate information to their audiences.

Secondly, Industry associations that are coordinating efforts on the ground on behalf of the media industry may also apply.

However, Priority will be given to any media organization or media-related industry association that aims to deliver news and information to vulnerable or under-represented communities.

The amount a organisation can apply for

Primarily, an Organizations may apply for up to a maximum of EUR8,000.

Assignment Duration

However, Reporting assignments should be completed within a 8 week period.

– Personal protective equipment (PPE)
– Activity/implementation costs
– Core costs
– Salaries/fees
